Game Sale Seasons and How to Use Wishlists

PC game sales follow patterns. If you know them, you can skip impulse buys and pay less for the games you actually want.

Big sales come in cycles

Major stores run large sales several times a year, usually around seasons and holidays, plus shorter themed events and publisher sales. Exact dates change from year to year, so check each store’s announcements instead of relying on memory. In between, individual games drop in price for a few days at a time, often when an update, sequel or anniversary arrives.

Why wishlists work

A wishlist turns a vague plan into a list of games you really want. Stores notify you when something on it goes on sale, so you do not need to watch prices daily. Keep your wishlist honest: add only games you would play, and remove ones you no longer care about.

Set a price in mind

  1. Decide the most you would pay for each game.
  2. Compare the current sale with the game’s recent prices. Our deal guide explains how.
  3. If the price is above your limit, wait. Most games return to a similar discount within a few months.
